The lecture series “UMA PALAVRA E SEUS DISCURSOS,” organized by the City of Porto through the Porto Museum and Libraries, kicked off last Saturday, April 20, to a sold-out crowd and strong public turnout.

The project invites reflection on 11 words deeply associated with Porto: pronunciation, granite, cimbalino, dragon, wine, bourgeoisie, tripe, wall, heart, riverbank, and freedom.

The curator is Nuno Camarneiro, who is also a professor at School of Arts (SoA) in the Conservation and Restoration department, and who co-hosts the event with Minês Castanheira and Tito Couto.

More than just a series of conversations, the cycle establishes itself as a space for debate on the memory, meaning, and transformation of the words that help define Porto’s character. The initiative also takes place in different locations throughout the city, reinforcing the relationship between language, territory, and heritage.
