From north to south of the country, including the islands, several secondary school students chose to spend a summer week at School of Arts, experiencing an immersive journey into the world of artistic creation. From Lisbon to Leiria, from Ílhavo to the Azores, and from several other municipalities in the Porto Metropolitan Area, the Teen Academy once again brought together young people from different parts of the country.
Throughout the week, participants explored the fields of Film, Sound and Image, and Conservation and Restoration through hands-on workshops led by professors and students from the School. More than simply learning about the courses, the Teen Academy challenged young people to experiment, create, and develop projects, providing their first contact with higher education in the field of the Arts.
In the Short Film Project, participants immersed themselves in every stage of the filmmaking process, from the initial concept to the final edit. Divided into four working groups, they took on the challenge of creating four short films, assuming different roles throughout the production process. During the workshop, they worked with professional image and sound recording equipment and used the latest editing software, gaining first-hand insight into the creative and technical processes behind a film project. The experience concluded with a cinema screening, where participants had the opportunity to watch all the projects they had developed.
In the Conservation and Restoration Workshop, students discovered the world of heritage preservation through hands-on activities that replicate the work carried out by professionals in the field. In this edition, they explored some of the main stages involved in ceramic intervention, carrying out procedures such as cleaning, fixing, and filling a piece, while understanding the importance of cultural heritage conservation and the challenges associated with the profession.
At the Sound and Image Workshop, participants explored the different areas that make up the degree programme, including animation, video, sound, and new media art. From creating visual elements through 2D animation to discovering how a television studio operates, they were introduced to the various stages of an audiovisual production. They experimented with both creative and technical processes, from developing ideas and drawings to exploring the control room, camera operation, and the behind-the-scenes work involved in a studio recording. The experience culminated in the creation and recording of a performance in a Live on Tape format, allowing participants to put into practice the skills and knowledge acquired throughout the week.
The Teen Academy once again reinforces its role as a unique opportunity for young people to discover the reality of the School of Arts, explore different areas of study, and take their first steps towards building their academic and creative paths.
