School of Arts returns to Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival, strengthening its presence in the 34th edition of the festival, which takes place between 17 and 26 July 2026.
With regular participation in previous editions, School of Arts returns to the festival’s competitive program with two films by alumni, both created in an academic context within the Cinema degree courses.
In the Take One Competition, dedicated to works made in an academic context, SEMEEI VERMELHO, by Sofia Afonso, a graduate of the BA in Cinema, was selected. The film is part of the festival’s competitive lineup, which continues to focus on works produced in educational settings, showcasing the work of future Portuguese filmmakers.
Also in competition is MOCIDADE, MOCIDADE, by João Mendes Pinto, a student of the Master’s in Cinema, reinforcing the presence of works developed in the second cycle of studies in the festival selection.
In this edition, the film “Carnaval Canibal,” by Inês Leal, a student in the Master's in Film program at the School of the Arts, is also in the Experimental competition. The film will premiere at the 34th edition of the Curtas Vila do Conde Festival, with a screening scheduled for Monday, July 20, at 5:30 p.m., at the Vila do Conde Municipal Theater, Room 2.
With these participations, School of Arts maintains its active role in the training and promotion of new Portuguese film talent, strengthening the link between artistic education and the festival circuit.
