School of Arts inaugurated yesterday, 20 May, the exhibition “Geometria Sensível”, the first solo exhibition in Portugal by Brazilian artist Rodrigo Cass. Curated by João Sarmento SJ and Nuno Crespo, and developed in collaboration with Brotéria, the exhibition will unfold in two stages: at School of Arts, in Porto, where it opened yesterday, and at Brotéria, in Lisbon, where it will open on 26 May.
Internationally recognised, with works held in collections such as the Centre Georges Pompidou, TBA21 – Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary and the Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo, Rodrigo Cass presents a body of work in which geometry, colour and gesture intersect in a reflection between formal rigour and sensory experience.
The opening also featured a performance by Pedro Verdum, reinforcing the bodily and performative dimension present in the artist’s universe.
The exhibition remains on view at the Católica Art Center until 3 October.
More information about “Geometria Sensível” is available on the exhibition’s official website.
About the artist
Rodrigo Cass (born in São Paulo in 1983) develops an artistic practice built on the tension between the rigor of Brazilian constructive tradition and a sensitive, almost organic approach to form. In dialogue with the legacies of Concretism and Neo-Concretism, the artist shifts these references into an expanded territory where painting, sculpture, and moving image intersect and contaminate one another.
His recent solo exhibitions include Rodrigo Cass: A Joyner/Giuffrida Visiting Artist Program, Nevada Museum of Art, Nevada, United States (2025); libera abstrahere, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, São Paulo, Brazil (2023); Figures, Gestures and Passages, Anthony Meier Fine Arts, San Francisco, United States (2019); Espiritual-Vivente-Respira, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, São Paulo, Brazil (2018); Mundo Vasto Mundo, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel | Escritório Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal (2018); and Até o Concreto, Fortes Vilaça, São Paulo, Brazil (2016).
Among his most relevant group exhibitions are the 13th Mercosul Biennial, Porto Alegre, Brazil (2025); Nunca só essa mente, nunca só esse mundo, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel | Carpintaria, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2023); Rosas Brasileiras, Farol Santander, São Paulo, Brazil (2023); The Square São Paulo, Casa de Vidro, São Paulo, Brazil (2023); AAA – Antologia de Arte e Arquitetura, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, São Paulo, Brazil (2020); Cities in Dust, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel | Carpintaria, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2020); and The Way Objects Go, Belgrade Cultural Center, Belgrade, Serbia (2017).
