Until the end of November, School of Arts is hosting artist Xadalu Tupã Jekupé for an artistic residency as part of the FOCO 2024 Award.

Xadalu was the winner of the FOCO Award, presented by the School of Arts at the opening of ArtRio, Rio de Janeiro's most important art fair. The FOCO Award was launched in 2013 with the aim of promoting and disseminating the work of visual artists with up to 15 years of career experience. Each edition of the award selects talented artists to participate in artistic residencies at relevant institutions in Brazil and abroad.

Xadalu Tupã Jekupé (Alegrete, RS) is a Guarani indigenous artist whose practice is rooted in the legacy of the Guarani Baroque Missionaries and the processes of catechization and cultural erasure in the pampas. Working with painting, screen printing, photography, and installation, he creates narratives that intertwine myth, spirituality, and history, highlighting colonialism and affirming the contemporaneity of indigenous art. He has completed residencies in France, Spain, Italy, Chile, at the Collegium (Arévalo), and at the Humboldt Forum (Berlin). His work is part of renowned collections such as the Tesoura da Franca Art Collection, the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo, the Rio Art Museum, the Museum of Indigenous Cultures, the Iberê Camargo Foundation, and the Collegium.
