1st Luso-Brazilian Congress on Decorative Arts
From the Context of Creation to the Setting of Appreciation
Ordem Terceira de São Francisco do Porto e Universidade Católica Portuguesa
June 17–20, 2026
This congress will seek to discuss a variety of topics, ranging from the social uses of objects (and their trajectories) to typological and case studies, from different types of sources to ornamentation, from materials to clientele, and from foreign influences to unique innovations on both sides of the Atlantic. By sharing research, it aims to better understand the pieces that populated living spaces, both in Portugal and in Brazil.
This first edition of the conference will be based on the theme that serves as its starting point, which begins with the context of the creation of the works and their artisans, extending to the settings and contexts of their various uses, and aims to bring together researchers dedicated to the study of the Decorative Arts.
Location:
Dr. António Pedro Pinto de Mesquita Auditorium
Venerable Third Order of St. Francis of Porto (Rua da Bolsa, 80)
